One step of preparing for a disaster is securing important documents. For the original documents, it is recommended to store them in a waterproof bag, preferably one that is also fireproof. In addition, those with smartphones can take photographs of the documents or use one of the scanning apps to make PDFs of the documents. After a disaster occurs, these documents are often necessary for recovery applications, such as insurance, and while the digital copies of the documents may have limitations since they are not the originals, they will still serve as useful.
