According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 1000 cases of vaping-related lung injuries have been reported in 48 states, including the US Virgin Islands. There have been 21 deaths so far, and the data does not suggest that this has peaked or is in decline. While the cause of this outbreak remains unknown, about 78% of the reported cases involved using THC-containing products. The CDC and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) are concerned about the black-market sources for these products and thus have intensified their warnings and recommendations. The CDC recommends that people do not use e-cigarette or vaping products, especially children, young adults, pregnant women, or people who have not previously used tobacco.
