Yet another article has linked an outbreak of a mosquito-borne illness to climate change. There have been 31 confirmed cases, including 9 deaths, attributable to Eastern equine encephalitis, a deadly brain infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has dubbed this the worst outbreak in decades, with most cases occurring in Massachusetts, followed by Michigan. A CDC spokesman, Thomas Skinner, believes that the unusually high number of cases could be the result of the distribution of mosquitoes, as well as other environmental factors. They believe that Cattail mosquitoes are bringing the disease from infected birds to non-infected humans. Skinner notes that this is one of the most severe mosquito-borne illness, and that it can be avoided if the recommended precautions are taken.
