NYTimes: California’s Wildfires Had an Invisible Impact: High Carbon Dioxide Emissions

Although it is clear to most that wildfires devastate lands, homes and livelihoods, what is not as obvious to most is the devastating release of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. CO2 emissions doubled this summer compared to last, leading to devastating repercussions. The interesting aspect of carbon emissions due to wildfires, is that there is the possibility of the burned through areas to regenerate plant life which in the future will use this excess CO2, if not more to sustain itself. However, the immediate result is an increase of CO2 into the atmosphere, which contributes to global warming. To read the full article, click here. To read more about wildfires, click here.
