Children Ages 5-11 could get the Pfizer vaccine within weeks

A new review by the FDA came out on Saturday which indicated that the Pfizer vaccine would be safe for use in children ages 5-11. In documents from Pfizer and their partners at BioNTech showed that the vaccine was around 91% effective in the age group. This review came just one week before the formal meeting that is set at the beginning of November during which outside experts are set to debate about the full authorization of the vaccine for children in this group. This would open the gate for another 28 million eligible children to get the vaccine, and many see it as the final step in the vaccine authorization fight. This is also potentially exciting given the recent rise in covid cases among children which EpiCenterLA posted about this past month.
