New York Times: Mosquitoes Are a Growing Public Health Threat, Reversing Years of Progress

Over the past few years, mosquitoes have become a growing public health threat, as they have evolved to survive insecticides and bed nets. Climate change has brought mosquitoes carrying tropical viruses such as dengue to places such as Florida and France. A squadron of young scientists led by entomologist Dr. Ochomo are testing new insecticides, new ways to deliver them in order to combat mosquitoes, and tracking parasites that the mosquitoes carry. Dr. Ochomo is currently testing the effectiveness of a new type of spatial mosquito repellent, which has been shown to significantly reduce malaria cases in families with the device.
