About a week ago, members of the Taliban reported to accepting a truce- a three day cease fire. This is the first act of its kind in the seventeen years of warfare in the region. They have agreed to release some prisoners of war as long as they did not return to combat. The Taliban has also made it clear that they are ready to defend themselves if they were to come under attack. This three days peace has no specific date, however, it is thought to coincide with the end of Ramadan. The U.S. forces have agreed to honor the cease fire, and the Taliban have long insisted that the U.S remove itself for true peace conversations to begin.
