NBC: LA Ignores Piles of Trash and Rats That Could Be Causing Typhus Outbreak

In the streets of down town Los Angeles, between the garment and produce district, there are piles of trash. This excess garbage is believe to be linked to the Typhus outbreak. Typhus is spread by the fleas on rats, dogs, cats and other animals. There have been a reported 57 cases this year, which is higher than in previous years. Shop owners have reported that they have called for the trash to be picked up, with no answer or returning of their call. Typhus symptoms include high fever, rash, abdominal pain, and muscle pain. To help prevent Typhus, treat all pets with anti-flea medication.
