NPR: To Prevent Wildfires, PG&E Pre-Emptively Cuts Power To Thousands In California

In order to decrease the threat of wildfires in Northern California, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. warns it may preemptively shut down the power in 12 counties, affecting 87,000 customers. This is in response to the concerning weather conditions that may cause a fire, including very low humidity and high winds of up to 60 mph. The power cuts started Sunday (October 4th) evening, and will end starting Monday night and continuing into Tuesday. The intentional power outage has caused mixed feelings, where some people are angered and others praise this safety decision.
