SA: Hunting for New Drugs with AI

The pharmaceutical industry has been in a drug development and productivity decrease for the past two decades. It appears that most drugs that can treat common disorders have been found, so the focus has turned to developing drugs that treat a specific disease. Far less people have these diseases, so they generate less revenue.  Not surprisingly, these companies are eager to introduce artificial intelligence(AI) into drug development, specifically through machine learning. Scientists in the field believe that introducing AI could lead to the identification of promising drug candidates, increasing the percentage of prospective drugs that gain regulatory approval, and speeding up the entire process.
