NYT: Some Covid Survivors Have Antibodies That Attack the Body, not Virus

Researchers discovered that many COVID-19 patients develop “autoantibodies” which target human cells instead of virus cells. This could explain why some survivors have lasting problems even after recovering from the virus. It is possible that even a mild response to the virus could induce the antibody response. The effects of autoantibodies could cause lupus or rheumatoid arthritis and this would mean doctors could use existing antibody tests to determine if patients need treatments.
