Extensive political polarization has gotten health officials struggling to invoke trust among people as the United States prepares for the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine.  It has been estimated that 60 to 70 percent of the US population will need to get vaccinated to substantially decrease the rate of transmission. US authorities have been working towards dispelling doubts about vaccine safety but the history of unethical medical research, particularly involving marginalized communities, maintains the continuous wariness of the healthcare system and, in turn, the vaccine.
