The New York Times: C.D.C. Warns the New Virus Variant Could Fuel Huge Spikes in Covid-19 Cases

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warn that the variant coronavirus strain first found in Britain could become the dominant strain in the United States by March. The United States is now in a race to vaccinate as many Americans as possible; however, efforts have been inefficient due to confusion over who is eligible and unequal rollout from state to state. Data is still limited on the variant and it is unknown whether it is more deadly or causes more serious disease. As hospitals and nursing homes become more overwhelmed, many of which are operating at capacity, there is a desperate urgency to accelerate vaccine distribution.
