A California biotechnology company, GRAIL, is introducing a blood test called Galleri that claims to catch hard-to-detect, aggressive cancers including esophageal, ovarian, and pancreatic. It could play an important role in early detection of cancer which increases the chances of successful treatment. The blood test tracks for DNA that a cancer cell sheds. It can predict with high accuracy where in the body the cancer signal is located, and a study found the test has a less than 1% false positive rate. The test does not have FDA approval yet.
