Rep. Maloney Introduces Two Major Pieces of Legislation to Hold Gun Manufacturers Accountable and Combat Gun Violence
Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney introduced two works of legislation. The first being the Firearm Industry Fairness Act, which would put a tax rate of 20% on all revenue for firearm manufacturers that produce semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines. The tax revenue would go towards Community Violence Intervention programs to reduce gun violence and support victims. It’s important to note that federal tax rates on firearms have not been updated in more than 50 years. The second is the Firearm Industry Crime and Trafficking Accountability Act that makes firearm manufacturers accountable for widespread criminal misuse of their products by creating a monitoring system to track the crimes committed through the guns that they sold.
