The spread of coronavirus is undoubtedly intertwined with the spread of speculation around its origins. In the face of ambiguity and great uncertainty, the world turned to college professors with no evidence or training in virology and anonymous social media users, posing as high-level intelligence officials to answer the most pressing questions about the pandemic. Francis Boyle, a Harvard-trained law professor, with no academic degree in virology or biology was observed to continuously promote the idea that the coronavirus is a genetically engineered bioweapon that escaped from a high-level lab in China basing his argument on circumstantial evidence: the presence of a Biosafety Level 4 lab in Wuhan. Next, GREATGAMEINDIA, a website built around the idea that the virus was first found in the lungs of a Saudi man and then sent to labs in the Netherlands and then Canada, where it was stolen by Chinese scientists.
