CNN: Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine is 94.5% effective, according to company data

Following the announcement of Pfizer’s vaccine success last week, Moderna has announced its preliminary results. While Pfizer had a 90% effective vaccine, Moderna’s vaccine had 94.5% efficacy. These vaccines are the first to be made of mRNA, and based on their data, suggest incredible potential for mRNA-based vaccines. The Moderna vaccine also proves to be more practical than the Pfizer vaccine–it has a longer shelf life and can be kept at the same temperature as the chickenpox vaccine. Pfizer’s vaccine can only last in a refrigerator for 5 days and that refrigerator must be extremely cold–prompting issues for its usage in third-world countries and requiring thousands of dollars in new equipment for areas without a refrigerator capable of reaching -75 degrees Celsius.
