Equatorial Guinea and Tanzania had Marburg outbreaks in January and March of this year, respectively. As a hemorrhagic fever, Marburg is a relatively rare disease with a very high death rate. Like Ebola, it is transmitted through bodily fluids and symptoms include high fever and capillary leakage. This is the first ever Marburg outbreak recorded in both countries, which is raising concerns within the World Health Organization. The epidemic has been brought under control in Tanzania, with 2 people left in quarantine, but the spread is ongoing in Equatorial Guinea.
