In 2022, a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealed that millions more Americans, including 1 million additional households with children, struggled to secure enough food compared to the previous year. This marked a reversal of a long-standing trend of decreasing hunger in the United States. The report found that 12.8% of households, equivalent to 17 million, experienced food insecurity in 2022, up from 10.2% (13.5 million households) in 2021.
