In an interview with David Hemenway, a firearm researcher, and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Hemenway states that federally, the U.S. has weakened their gun laws since the Columbine shooting 25 years ago. He adds that many other countries have found success in lowering gun fatalities through stricter gun laws. However, Hemenway believes that improvements are indeed being made, as a National Violent Death Reporting System has been established, allowing for determining the effectiveness of future laws and policies.
