NBC: Rat Lungworm Parasite Infected 12, Including Toddlers: CDC

According to federal health officials, 12 individuals have been infected by rat lungworm which is a parasite with the ability of negatively impacting the central nervous system. Symptoms of infection include severe headache and stiffness of the neck, tingling in the skin or extremities, low-grade fever, nausea, and vomiting. This parasite made headlines in China after raw centipeds were consumed by individuals who were consequently infected. More recently, in the US, those who were infected may have been exposed when consuming raw vegetables from home gardens according to the CDC.  To read more about the outbreak, click here.
