JEMS: Las Vegas Mass Shooting Hospital Response Case Study

844

The Nevada Hospital Association released a report following the Harvest Festival shooting in the hopes of prompting a discussion for other hospitals and furthering preparedness efforts. Some of the challenges discussed include patients being spread across 4 square miles at the festival, over 800 patients self-transported to the hospital, no notice was given to the hospitals until the injured arrived, infection control and contamination was hard to manage due to the volume of blood from injuries, and triage was problematic at many hospitals. The case study highlights a plethora of information that hospitals and emergency managers can learn from to better prepare their institution for these tragic incidents. To read more about the case study, click here.
