With the last major earthquake of magnitude 6 or stronger in Napa five years ago and deficit of earthquakes in California in the last 100 years, seismic experts are warning of the end of the calm. Many seismologists are worried that the lack of urgency in earthquake preparedness could devastate the state. While it is hard to pinpoint exactly when the next major earthquake will occur, scientists are currently focused on the lack of seismic activity at the San Andreas, San Jacinto, and Hayward faults, which typically have frequent earthquakes to relieve tectonic strains. Besides being physically prepared with emergency supplies and plan, it is also important for Californians to be psychologically prepared for a potential future of many earthquakes.
