Using antibiotics without a prescription is a prevalent public health problem

People inappropriately using antibiotics seems to be a reoccurring public health problem. Some will save leftover prescriptions to use later, getting them from friends or family, or obtaining them from a local market “under the counter”. This leads to people taking the unnecessary medication or an inappropriate drug dose. This practice can increase the risk for inducing antibiotic resistance.
