Social connections boost resilience among elderly after disaster

Harvard School of Public Health: After the 2011 earthquake in Japan, epidemiologists surveyed the well-being of elderly folks that had been impacted by the area. Astonishingly, they found that, instead of a concern for material goods such as food or shelter, these individuals were more concerned about each other’s sense of identity and well-being of their community. Researchers were astonished to see these individuals prioritizing social capital and their identities, which could be due to factors such as dementia or other related issues.
