Coronavirus vaccine research is moving at record speed

Scientists are working to create a vaccine against the new coronavirus with a record-breaking speed — something they could have barely imagined only 10 years ago. Although, however fast the scientists work, the virus is still spreading more rapidly. Barney Graham, director of the Vaccine Research Center at the National Institutes of Health, stated that they hope to have a safe vaccine in human testing trials April. Furthermore, Timothy Sheahan, assistant professor at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, stated that because making a vaccine for the coronavirus will take time, the most effective way to maximize the utility of a given antiviral drug in the future is to develop one that combats many bugs, not just one.
