NBC News: Louisiana Legislature approves bill to classify abortion pills as controlled dangerous substances

Louisiana currently has a near-total abortion ban in place, preventing both surgical and medical abortions from its conservative-driven legislature. With this mindset, two abortion-inducing drugs could be reclassified as controlled and dangerous substances. This bill to enforce this was passed on May 22nd, and the governor is expected to sign the bill into law. 

Mifepristone and misoprostol are abortion-inducing drugs, and the bill would reclassify them as Schedule IV drugs, and this classification would greatly increase the difficulty of obtaining them. In opposition, over 200 doctors in Louisiana signed a letter to lawmakers expressing their concerns as this policy could lead to worsening outcomes for maternal mortality.
