Slate: Climate Change Could Tun the Tokyo Olympics Into a Disaster

Within the last two months, Tokyo, Japan reached an average high of 92 degree Fahrenheit with more than 20,000 people in Japan hospitalized due to the extreme heat. At this rate, climate change could severely affect the Tokyo Olympics starting in July 24, 2020. Despite the commitments made during the Paris Agreement, global temperature has already risen 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit causing more heat waves and affecting Japan’s economy, natural disaster rates, and ecosystems. These increasing trends will be an increasing factor for spectators and athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics.
