Financial Times: Deep data helps cities prepare for disaster

Spatial data is being increasingly used to examine urban and rural landscapes, and now can be used to assist civilians in preparing for natural disasters. Drones are used to collect spatial data from satellites, and microsensors are used to detect changes in temperature and seismic activity. These microsensors are also utilized to forecast future weather and natural disaster patterns and assist researchers by providing allowing them to prepare with hypothetical scenarios.
