The Washington Post: Biden’s claim that ‘pandemic is over’ complicates efforts to secure funding

President Biden has declared the COVID-19 pandemic is over in an interview with Scott Pelley
on 60 Minutes that aired Sunday night. The President said “If you notice, no one’s wearing
masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing. And I think
this is a perfect example of it.” This was in response to a question about the Detroit Auto Show
being held for the first time since 2019 after a 3 year wait due to the pandemic. These comments
complicate the Biden’s administration’s efforts to secure additional funding from Congress for
more coronavirus vaccines and treatments. The director of the World Health Organization,
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has disagreed with President Biden saying “We are not there yet
but the end is in sight. We can see the finish line. but now is the worst time to stop running.” The
