Op-Ed: How helpful will the new COVID booster really be?
The FDA approved Omicron-specific vaccines recommended for everyone ages 12 and up with a minimum of two doses of the original vaccine. However, with the public’s unfamiliarity with the vaccine, there have been a series of concerns about the effectiveness of these new vaccines. Along with the public’s doubt, healthcare providers are facing a tough decision, in the position of unable to advise individual patients to take the new vaccines, given the incomplete data. As population immunity grows, it’s unclear that additional vaccine boosters will benefit all ages equally.
