NBC News: Covid outbreak at Antarctic research station forces temporary travel ban

The National Science Foundation, which operates McMurdo Station on the southern tip of Antarctica’s Ross Island, announced new measures over the weekend to help control a COVID-19 outbreak at an American scientific research station in Antarctica. U.S. officials have been forced to temporarily halt all travel to the remote outpost. 10% of the 885 people currently living and working at McMurdo Station have tested positive for Covid during this recent outbreak. This comes at an unfortunate time as scientists usually look to travel to the station during November for research as it is summer time in Antarctica.  The full article by Denise Chow can be read here on NBC News.
