The Week: North Carolina legislature enacts enacts 12-week abortion ban, overriding governor’s veto

The new bill in North Carolina bans abortion at 12 weeks, with 20 week exceptions for rape and incest, 24 week exceptions for some fetal abnormalities, and no limit when the pregnant person’s life is in danger. Governor Ray Cooper vetoed the bill after campaigning against it and urged Republicans to not override it, but they all voted for the ban and overrode the veto. With the enactment of this new bill, South Carolina is the only Southern state that allows abortion past 12 weeks.
