FDA strengthens warning on opioid cold medicine

CNN’s Jacqueline Howard reports that the FDA has recently announced revisions to safety labeling on prescription opioid cough and cold medicine to restrict the use to adults 18 years and older. This announcement comes in response to the growing epidemic of opioid addiction. Last year, an FDA investigation warned that certain opioids could cause life threatening breathing complications in children. With more information coming forth about both the severity of the opioid epidemic as well as the consequences of such addictions, agencies such as the FDA are placing stronger restrictions on opioid availability.
