India announces new plan to help farmers stem air pollution

After a year of heightened air pollution levels in India, experts have determined the primary source to be crop burning in the states of Punjab and Haryana. In response, India’s finance minister, Arun Jaitley, suggested a subsidy for farmers to reduce crop burning. India’s air pollution is generally evenly distributed, with similarly high levels of air pollution reported in both rural and urban settings.
