A new form of polio vaccine could help eradicate the disease in developing countries. Freeze drying the Polio vaccine allows it to be stored for up to four weeks, even in hotter climates. Usually, vaccines require refrigeration, which has been a barrier to preventing the disease in countries like Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. Professor Jung at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles is hoping to eventually increase the shelf life to up to three months, or even one year.
