CNN: Doctors newly define another type of dementia, sometimes mistaken for Alzheimer’s

Recently, a new disease called LATE has been named as a new type of dementia possibly more common than Alzheimer’s for people over 80. LATE stands for limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy and is named after the location of the misfolded protein, TDP-43 which is also seen in Alzheimer’s and Lewy body dementia. This discovery holds important impacts for Alzheimer’s drug trials as some patients involved in the trial were later discovered to have LATE rather than Alzheimer’s.
