CNN: Study estimates 15,000 cancer cases could stem from chemicals in California tap water

A five-year study conducted by the Environmental Working Group estimates that cancer-causing contaminants, such as arsenic and chromium, found in public water systems could potentially result in 15,000 cancer cases over a lifetime. Undisclosed water systems were placed in four categories of risk, with the highest risk suggesting that more than 1 in 1000 people in such communities would be diagnosed with cancer. Most of these high-risk water systems stem from groundwater sources and serve small communities.
