Google trained its AI to predict lung cancer

1,107

Lung cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer, and kills more than 1.7 million people per year. Google has a new AI-based tool, and hopes to be able to use this device to detect lung cancer early on before it reaches later stages. Instead of viewing hundreds of images from CT scans, the AI model will be able to identify subtle malignant tissue that are often more difficult to detect. The model also factors in previous scans, which can help reveal the growth rate of suspicious tissue. The model was tested with 45,856 chest CT screens and board-certified radiologists. The AI detected 5 percent more cancer cases than radiologists and reduced false positive exams. The model needs additional research. click here.
