‘Respiratory Outbreak’ being investigated at retirement community after 54 residents fall ill

A respiratory outbreak at a senior home in Virginia caused two deaths and 18 others to be hospitalized. Their health department said 54 people became ill with respiratory symptoms ranging from pneumonia to upper respiratory symptoms at Greenspring Retirement Community. The outbreak had been reported in the assisted-living and skilled-nursing sections. The cause of the outbreak has not yet been identified. The facility took corrective measures and did not allow new admissions until the outbreak was over.
