Public health officials confirm causes of Legionnaires’ disease at Rocky Hill nursing home, one fatal

Two confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease among residents at Rocky Hill nursing home in Connecticut are being investigated. One person has died. Officials confirmed two cases of the type of pneumonia and identified the Legionnaires bacteria in water samples. This disease is a type of pneumonia caused by breathing in aerosolized water that contains the Legionella bacteria, which can be found in cooling towers, freshwater lakes or streams. The bacteria can also grow in water systems inside buildings, like showers and sinks. People over the age of 50 are more at risk to this disease.click here.
