ABC News: Meth, not fentanyl, driving overdose deaths in western US

In the majority of states west of the Mississippi River, methamphetamine is the most common drug accounted for in drug overdose deaths, contrary to fentanyl in the eastern United States, according to a CDC report in 2017. Whereas there are many medications and overdose reversal drugs available for opioid users, there are no FDA-approved medications or overdose reversal drugs for methamphetamine treatment. Nevertheless, fentanyl still account for 39% of drug overdose deaths, as of 2017.
