Los Angeles Times: Could the coronavirus hit California’s homeless population? Health officials are worried

Even though the number of known cases of the coronavirus are few in the United States, public health officials are worried about the risks and challenges of an outbreak that could occur in homeless populations. Lack of ability to have proper hygiene, living in close proximity, and risk factors from drug use and disease make the homeless more vulnerable to serious infections. There are currently not enough facilities to quarantine homeless individuals. In the meantime, Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, professor of public health and medicine at UCLA, says it is more beneficial for homeless individuals to get the flu shot as a proactive health measure alongside the fact that the flu is more prevalent disease than the coronavirus.
