SA: Why Some People Resist Advice on How to Behave in the Pandemic

During the current pandemic, people are experiencing different levels of “solution aversion” in response to the call for social distancing. Solution aversion can be defined as the psychological phenomenon in which people tend to deny a problem when they are resistant to the solution. The current solution to the problem of COVID-19 is social distancing and people may be having a difficult time adhering to this solution for a number of reasons: needing personal connections(extroverts), economic barrier to stockpiling, and youth rebellion. Understanding the solution aversions is key in identifying and addressing the motivations of behavior in the coming weeks and increasing self-isolation adherence.
