CNBC: CDC revises coronavirus guidance to acknowledge that it spreads through airborne transmission

After quickly revoking publishing advice on airborne COVID transmission on September 21st, the CDC has put forth a revision on Monday to acknowledge that airborne transmission is possible. Aerosols (less than 5 microns) are smaller than respiratory droplets, and can “linger in the air for minutes to hours”. Airborne transmission is seen as a “side street” mode of transmission that poses less risk than respiratory droplets. The CDC maintains that current guidelines of social distancing and mask wearing is adequate. However, poorly ventilated areas may increase risk of transmission.
