The Washington Post: Cocaine overdose deaths jump in recent years, CDC reports

According to a recent CDC report, the rate of overdoses deaths as a result of cocaine has skyrocketed since 2014. There is now a 2½ rate increase of cocaine-related deaths that is plaguing the nation despite the years of stable overdose deaths from 2009 through 2013. While the report does not explicitly address the potential cause of this epidemic, the Drug Enforcement Administration has attributed this rising trend to the increased availability of the drug, “record levels of coca cultivation and cocaine production in Colombia has led to increased usage in the United States.” To read the full article, click here.
