Los Angeles Times: UC Irvine and other schools reinstate indoor mask mandates amid rising COVID-19 wave
The University of California Irvine on Monday has reinstated indoor masking mandates for all students and staff regardless of vaccination status. UCI has joined other University of California schools such UC Riverside and UCLA that have reinstated their indoor masking mandates during the summer. This all comes in response to an increase in cases and hospitalizations due to the extremely contagious Omicron BA.5 subvariant. 9 in 10 Californians currently live in counties with high levels of COVID-19 community transmission set by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
