The US House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, now under Republican control, is launching its review of the Biden administration’s handling of the pandemic crisis. The Health and Human Services (HHS) Department has released 900 pages of records to the panel, including phone records, calendars, and dozens of internal records from top federal health officials, which were requested by committee chairman Rep. Brad Wenstrup, Republican of Ohio. The panel will investigate the origins of COVID-19, which is being probed whether it originated from a lab in Wuhan, China, and whether the Chinese Communist Party covered it up. The investigation will also look into whether U.S. taxpayer dollars were being sent to the Wuhan lab. Wenstrup said he will consider subpoenas against Dr. Anthony Fauci, former White House COVID adviser, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, and other key officials if full responses and answers are not provided to the panel’s questions. The subcommittee’s initial set of investigations will also probe the impact of school closures and stay-at-home orders. Democrats have criticized the inclusion of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, who has been accused of espousing conspiracy theories, in the panel. The full article by Scott Macflarane can be read here on CBS News.
