NYTimes: A Cancer Surgeon and Patient Is Biden’s Pick to Lead N.I.H.

President Biden announces that Dr. Monica Bertagnolli will be the next director of the National Institutes of Health (N.I.H.). Bertagnolli has previously headed the National Cancer Institute and is herself battling early stage breast cancer. She will be just the second woman to hold this position. In addition to cancer research, while leading the N.I.H, Bertagnolli will oversee research entities focusing on infectious diseases, heart diseases, mental health, drug use and abuse and many more. Her experience with cancer research will help contribute to President Biden’s goal to reduce cancer death rate during the next quarter century.
