CBC: Measles outbreak leads to 136 deaths in the Philippines
As of February 18th, the measles outbreak in the Philippines has caused the death of 136 people. The outbreak has 8,400 cases so far and quickly has led to government-led immunization efforts.  In a week, about 130,000 people have received the vaccination. As a disease that had been eliminated years ago, Measles has resurfaced in the Americas, and now it has spread to Asia. Authorities in the Philippines have declared an outbreak of the highly contagious measles virus in several areas, including its capital Manila. A World Health Organization (WHO) representative said that the measles vaccination rates were well below the targeted 95%. This, as a result, creates a pool of children who are susceptible to the disease.
